Arthur’s physical appearance can be influenced by the player. The player can choose his hair style, clothing and even cleanliness.
Players must also take basic care of Arthur, which in turn influences his appearance. A healthy Arthur will retain his stocky appearance. Over feeding him will lead to weight gain, giving him more health but limiting his stamina. While neglecting nutrition will thin Arthur out, negatively affecting his health but gaining him more stamina.

John Marston, Sr. is a fictional character in the Red Dead video game series by Rockstar Games. Portrayed by actor Rob Wiethoff, he serves as the protagonist of 2010s Red Dead Redemption and its standalone expansion, Undead Nightmare, and is also in its 2018 prequel, Red Dead Redemption 2.
In his younger years, John was an outlaw who rode in the infamous Van der Linde Gang, commiting multiple crimes. After the gang dissolves in 1899, he tries leaving his life of crime behind to become a rancher and a family man. After years of hiding, he is located by the FBI in 1910 and forced to hunt down the last surviving members of his former gang in exchange for his family and his freedom. However, after he has fulfilled his quest, the FBI kills him to cut any loose ends.
The character was received highly positive, with many critics citing his maturity, moral complexity and ambiguity, and quest for atonement as focal points of the game. Furthermore, actor Rob Wiethoff's portrayal of Marston was also met with acclaim.
